Capturing/Streaming Live TV via ATSC Antenna

Postby swphreak » Fri Sep 27, 2013 9:41 am

I'm trying to capture live TV using an ATSC antenna and stream it over a company LAN network.

I first tried using Hauppauge 1191 HVR950Q HDTV USB TV Tuner, but I couldn't get it to work with ULiveServer. I've since read that Hauppauge products don't work with UMediaServer / ULiveServer.

Can someone point me to a capture card / tuner that would work with ULiveStream?

I ended up just getting a set-top box to tune the antenna rather than trying to find a tv-tuner card that worked. From the box, I'm capturing via composite cabled to a cheap USB capture device.

Antenna -> Set-top Box -> Cheap Composite to USB Capture Device -> PC

It works, but the video quality is terrible.

Do you know of any HD quality capture cards that will work with unreal live server? I tried a Hauppauge Colossus, but live server couldn't even detect it. From what I've read online, it may be because Hauppauge uses proprietary codecs or something?

Would something like an Elgato Capture HD work?

Or would a non Hauppauge brand PCI-e capture card work?

I don't need 1080p, I'd be fine if I could at least get 720p quality.

Don't use Hauppauge.
The StarTech card will work fine, according to customer reviews.
