VLC streaming to Unreal Media Server

Due to popularity of this question emailed to our tech support, I am putting the answer here:

You can use "Pull" and "Push" approaches:

1. Pull: Stream with VLC via MMS protocol, for example:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=WMV2,vb=800,scale=1,acodec=wma2,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:std{access=mmsh,mux=asfh,dst=192.168.1.7:8888}

The IP address must be the IP of local computer, where VLC runs; Unreal Media Server can run anyhwere in the LAN; it will connect to the computer where VLC runs and pull the stream.

2. Push: Stream with VLC via MPEG2-TS protocol, for example:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=800,scale=1,acodec=mp4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:std{access=udp,mux=ts,dst=34.34.34.34:1234}

The IP address must be an IP address of the computer that runs Unreal Media Server; this is a UDP push method; you can stream to LAN and WAN IP addresses, traversing NAT routers.

In both cases you need to create a live broadcast with Unreal Media Server Configurator,
of the type "Broadcast RTSP/MPEG2-TS/MMS stream", and specify the same IP address and port as you specified for VLC.
