pull or push a rtmp stream to CDN

Postby benbiles » Tue Jun 22, 2010 2:42 pm

Hello,

At last a way of creating low latency flash video streams!!!! totaly impressed!

Is it possible to pull or push from or too a CDN (contend delivery network) (( edge server or wowza )) a rtmp stream on port 1935 from Unreal media server?

as far as i understand from the FAQ we cannot pull a rtsp or rtp stream.,

The reason is that we would like to have low latency clients viewing low latency streams for 2 way discussion (using Unreal media server) with
the possibilty of a larger non participating audience to watch the overall live event ( on the CDN ).,

or am i correct in thinking that its not possible since unreal media server is pointing to a live created .flv and that its no stricktly a flash server?

my appology in advance if this is not the correct place to post the question,

Unreal Media Server can only accept live streams from
1. Unreal Live Server (the Unreal Encoder)
2. Another Unreal Media Server
3. Microsoft Media Services / other MMS source

It can NOT directly accept streams from Wowza/Flash servers. (This may be possible for Unreal Live Server with the installation of RTSP DirectShow source filter (there are several on the market) so that a Wowza stream is treated like a regular video source)

In terms of load balancing / distribution it works exactly like other servers: you can have origin and edge servers and arrange them through your CDN to optimize the delivery.

Yes you can acheive massive distribution of low-latency live Flash streams through CDN, using Unreal Media Server.

so I cannot pull a from an Unreal media server rtmp stream to a CDN by adding the unreal media rtmp server source?

rtmp://x.x.x.x:5119/live/missing

I guess you rtmp flash player does other tricks to point to the real rtmp path? id numbers ?

such a shame we cannot do this., would love to buy your encoder and server,. but we want to interface the server with already
existing flash CDN that has a worldwide foot print

mmmm., or am i missing something obvioius?

thanks BEN

sorry trying to describe this the best I can,.

Live unreal server ( encoder ) --- too Live unreal sever ( server ) --- PULL from CDN rtmp://liveunreal server IP address:5119/live/alias ---- flash player ( viewer )

hope that makes sense,

By "Pull From CDN" you mean that you want to supply an RTMP live stream FROM Unreal Media Server TO
Flash or Wowza Media Servers?

Why, you should be able to do that, did you try it? Just like you should be able to play with JW player or any other player.
