Problems with Unreal Media Server

File not found on the server...

Postby Chupacabra » Thu Feb 08, 2018 11:14 am

Hi! We are able to map virtual folders to shared folders in our Windows network. Unfortunately, requests to stream video files from these virtual folders results in a "File not found on the server" error. The Media Server Configurator can see the contents of the shared folders. Virtual folders that are mapped to local folders work prefectly.
We are running the Unreal Media Server v8 from a Windows Server 2008 R2 box. We turned UAC off and ensured that the UMediaServer service is running under a domain account that is both a local admin on the server and has admin permissions on the windows file share.
We don't think it is a firewall issue since the TCP connection from client to server over port 5119 is working. For some reason, it cannot serve videos if they are stored in a windows file share. I don't think that the file server hosting the file share accepts requests over port 5119 (it is a SMB file share) but I think that should not matter.
Any thoughts or troubleshooting tips? I see that we are several versions behind. Perhaps upgrading to the latest version may be the next logical step. Are there any best practices or instructions on how to upgrade the Media Server? I did not see a way of backing up the current configuration.

Thank you!

Hello,

Unreal Media Server runs as a service under Local System account, which doesn't have access to your network shared folders.
You can change the account in Services Control Manager, to Network Service account, or, even better, to your administrative user account that has access to network shared folders.

Regarding the server upgrade, when you uninstall, it will ask you if you want to keep your current configuration.

Thank you for the response.
The UMediaServer service is not running under the Local System account. It is running under a Domain Account that has full permissions to our Windows file shares. The Domain Account is also a member of the local administrators group in the Windows Server. This was the first troubleshooting step we did when we first encountered the problem. Any ideas/suggestions about what else could be at fault?
Regarding the server upgrade, do we uninstall the software manually prior to installing the new version or does installing the new version kick off the uninstallation process?
Thank you for all your help!

You must use UNC paths to your network folders in the media server config program.

Uninstall the old version first. You will be able to keep the configuration.
