Video displaying problems

Postby tasoss » Wed Dec 20, 2017 3:03 pm

Hello.
I'm facing the following problem.
I cannot play any videos by using vlc, ffplay, bsplayer.
I can only hear audio.
They play only by your player.
The source of the video is from dvb.
I then use ffmpeg in order to transcode them and then i'm sending them to umedia.
I have tried both flash encoding and mpegts with no luck.
Moreover i have enabled
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\MPEG2Demultiplexer\WriteCapture
and all players can play it!
Is there any way to debug such a scenario in order to find
the problem?
Thanks!

Hello,

It could be

"I can't stream ASF/WMV files; file streaming is not working via UMS-RTP or MPEG2-TS.
Your system misses Windows Media Format runtime which is required on the server machine for these streaming modes; you need to install latest Windows Media Player or Media Format Runtime. On Windows Server 2008/2012 you need to enable "Desktop Experience" feature."

I don't understand what you mean by "it could be....".Anyway.
I know that most people don't use the FAQ.Or even the documentation.I'm a programmer too.
Well,we are using windows 2012 and Desktop Experience is installed.
From powershell running Get-WindowsFeature *Desktop*
[X] Desktop Experience Desktop-Experience Installed

The same problem exists on a windows 10 machine too!
Any more ideas please?????

The reason for "could be" is that your report is very unclear and doesn't have enough details, so I need to guess.

You are saying "The source of the video is from dvb", but you are not specifying audio/video codecs.
So I guess the video codec is not H.264, so it will not play via rtmp protocol by any player.
It could still be playable via mpeg2-ts protocol by VLC, if video codec is mpeg1/mpeg2.

You are saying "I have tried both flash encoding and mpegts with no luck." - what do you mean?
Are you saying you are publishing with ffmpeg?
Then, once again, READ THE FAQ!

You are saying
"Moreover i have enabled
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\MPEG2Demultiplexer\WriteCapture
and all players can play it!"

All players can play WHAT?

Hello again.
I'm here to give you all the details in order to solve my problem.
I have uploaded a sample video here https://streamable.com/bb8k3
produced with
ffmpeg -y -nostdin -hwaccel cuvid -c:v h264_cuvid -drop_second_field 1 -resize 1024x576 -deint 2 -i udp://127.0.0.1:7669?timeout=10000000 -c:v h264_nvenc -b:v 500k -preset ll -acodec libmp3lame -b:a 128k -strict experimental -f mpegts -loglevel debug sample.ts

BTW i'm using ffmpeg in order to stream with umedia server using another source and it works as expected.

When you enable HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\MPEG2Demultiplexer\WriteCapture , it then writes at WriteCaptureDir(another key at the registry - which is a directory in our case) the data(creates actual files) that i stream from ffmpeg to unreal.I'm sorry but i supposed you knew that WriteCapture writes on actual files. This is what i meant by "and all players can play it!"

So using
mmsh://foo:5119/Channel1 (this is what i mean by 'You are saying "I have tried mpegts with no luck." ')
or
rtmp://foo:5119/live/Channel1 (this is what i mean by 'You are saying "I have tried flash encoding with no luck." ')

i can only hear audio!
Using your player i can see video too!
Please let me know if you need any more info.
It's important for me to solve the problem.
Thanks!

OK, so you are trying to create a live playlist and add these files to that playlist?

I cannot download your file to test.

mmsh shouldn't work at all; you refuse to read the FAQ, otherwise you would read that mmsh is for Windows Media codecs only.
rtmp should work. I suspect that there is something wrong with this command line that you use to create the .ts file with ffmpeg.
At the same time, when ffmpeg does it by itself, using that registry key, it does it the right way.

No i don't want to create a playlist.
Yes mmsh only supports windows media codecs so it's correct not to display anything. You are right.
But rtmp doesn't work too.
Can i debug it?
The video is fine until it reaches the media server. Can i find what the problem is?
FFmpeg is running on a linux machine. The registry thing is what i have found when i used process monitor on your umedia service exe file.
So i used it and find out that the files(what i'm sending from ffmpeg) can be played by vlc.
But then, processed by the unreal server and the video is lost.
Could you give me an email to send you the video?

So what is foo:5119/live/Channel1?
what type of live broadcast is it?

Send video to techsupport@umediaserver.net
or upload it to dropsend.com
