Best Player Best Codec,

Postby mike » Tue Aug 02, 2011 12:31 am

We are installing new broadbands at our LiveServer sites that are in the range of 1.5 up and 12m down. These will be viewed by standard DSL type viewers. Given all the browsers and players available which configuration would be best for live streaming? We want the clearest sharpest picture. The movement is not super fast as a sports event but more like a video conference/teaching stream.

We have pretty much a clean slate and can start fresh with any configuration.

With 1.5 mbps upload you can easily do 640x480 or even 720pHD h.264 encoding, 30 fps; the only problem may be encoding computers that need to be pretty powerful to encode such a video. UM300/UM400 can solve that proble, FYI.

Actually.. using one of your encoders may be a great solution. Is it possible to control those encoders (start/stop recording, auto-connecting) as we use the COM object quite a lot.

Also should we use flash or Windows Media Player, or the UMedia Player?

Flash is preferable, or Unreal player, if your users don't mind installing it or its browser plugin
