Playing MP4 files in playlists - source can't be rendered

Postby clkclk » Thu Oct 21, 2010 12:23 pm

Hi

I know that unreal and media player can play mp4 files because I have some old machines that did it.

But now I have two new computers.

I have some MP4 files on the machine setup as the Unreal Media server in a playlist - there are some MP3s and WMAs and other files in the playlist as well.

When I start streaming from the client it's all working perfectly until it hits the MP4 file in the playlist.

I then get an error message saying that

"Server can not render this media source"
"Extended error: Can not render the file. The format is not supported"

I thought it might be a codec problem but loaded what I believe to be the right codecs on the client - still the error message.

I went to the server and tried running media player and told it to play the playlist on the server - same error message when it gets to the MP4 file in the playlist

But I can run the mp4 files on the sevrer if I use VLC Player ot Quicktime or so on.

And I can run exactly the same files on the setup on my old server and client (which I can't continue to use as both are very old, can't be upgraded and slowly expiring)

Anybody any ideas

You need to install mp4 splitter on the server side.
I recommend Matroska splitter
