|
|
Hi!
I'm a pretty new user of Unreal but what I can tell so far, it's the best freeware streaming solution I've ever tried.
Now to my question:
What software codec is best suited for live streaming (lowest CPU-usage)?
I know the best solution is to have hardware that directly supports it but I haven't got the money for that right now.
So, anyone have experience of streaming codecs? |

Depends on your encoder computer strength, where you run Live Server.
While WMV/WMA are best encoding options bitrate/quality - wise, these are most CPU-expensive codecs among these that we offer.
MPEG-4/MP3/GSM6.10 are less CPU-intensive but also produce lower quality video/sound.
Also note that not everyone is able to play WMV/WMA. If you don't have Windows Media Player 9 or higher installed, for whatever reason - may be you live in Europe and have Windows XP version without WMP, or you never apply Windows Updates and still have WMP 7 - then you don't have WMV/WMA decoders on your computer.
However MPEG-4/MP3/GSM6.10 decoders come with every Windows version; so you can be sure everyone has them.
