Wondering if anyone else is getting an error when initiating a Live Stream (From TV Tuner) once MS Remote Desktop has been initiated?
The setup works great. Live Stream and File streaming works. However, once I initiate Remote Desktop it seems to affect Live Stream only. Even after disconnecting Remote Desktop, Live Stream will not initiate properly anymore. Every Client will get the error "Media Server Dropped Connection". File Streaming continues to work properly.
The only recourse is to reboot the Server machine (Live Server and Media Server on the same machine). Rebooting restores the functionality of the Live Streaming.
Anyone have any ideas?

We've never experienced such problem. Did you try some other live source, such as WebCam? What TV tuner card are you using? We suspect that the problem is DirectShow source filter/driver for that card.
Why do you need to reboot machine? Did you try to restart only LiveServer service? You can do it from ULiveSrcConfig.exe |

I'd be curious to hear what happens if right after this issue occurs you launch your internet browser. (That being before you restart LiveServer). I had a similar issue (although not with remote desktop) where streams with audio would not re-initialize a second time, my browser would not work until I restarted ULIveserver in services. That reset everything as Admin suggests. (Win2kPro/AMD 1700/Conexant). |

Re-starting the LiveServer seems to remedy the problem. Thank you for the suggestion.
As far as testing other live source beside the TV Tuner, I have not done that yet. I'll see if I can hookup a webcam on it and do some testing. My TVTuner card is an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB. It's an older card. It is AGP with DDR memory.

My Internet browse functions normally after each incident. It does not seem to affect it. I use both IE and Firefox.
Just to add. I am using the latest 5.0 server and Client. |

Admin,
Per suggestion, I hooked up a USB Webcam as a secondary Live Stream and tested. Webcam works before and after a Remote Desktop session. TVTuner continues to give an error after Remote Desktop session. Re-starting Live Server fixes the issue.

This is a frequent problem and AFAIK can't usually be resolved. MS Remote Desktop uses it's own special audio/video driver that overrides the system's default video card drivers.
Suggestion: If you must remotely admin the PC either use something like RealVNC or get the beta XP Remote Desktop driver that allows more than one concurrent user to login to the system, and then use RDP with the account that doesn't have the "open desktop".

Thanks for the suggestion Osetivo. I applied a patch to Windows XP that enabled more than one concurrent user to the system. After ending the session on the secondary login on the server, my Tuner continues to work. This is a great workaround!
