I will try to explain more clear:
There are two ActiveX controls: v4 and v5.
There are two Streaming Media Players (SMP), v4 and v5.
Installation of Streaming Media Player also installs ActiveX control.
Suppose you don't have any SMP installed. Then if you have your browser allowing signed ActiveX controls (security settings), when you try to watch a cam which refers to ActiveX v4, the browser will prompt you to install it and you will see video.
Same with v5 ActiveX.

wmhackneyponies, I don't know why the installation of SMP v5 fails on your computer.
May be it's related to your Windows ME specifics. Do you have latest updates? In particular, latest version of Windows installer.
Again, you do not need SMP at all. Uninstall it. Once you have enabled signed ActiveX controls in your browser, the controls will download and install and your problem should be over.
Again, you could install SMP v4 and then SMP v5 to another folder.
But you will only have the latest player shortcut in Start->Programs->UnrealStreaming, so this is not very recommended scenario.

Ric,
The problem of your ME/98 users is - they want to keep version 4 Player on their computers to be able to see other sites that still work with v4.
This only 98/ME problem and may be these guys just need to install latest windows updates.
On XP/2000/Vista you can run both v4 and v5 ActiveX with no problem.
You can recommend these users to uninstall v4.
That will solve their problems.

I tested installing V5 streaming media player on an old Win ME PC here in the office (that never had V4) and got the same error WM was getting above. It can't register the .dll file and if you hit the Continue button, it will not register the .ax file either. Definitely an issue with the OS. During the installation all of the files get installed in the Unreal Streaming/StreamingMediaPlayer folder including the .dll and .ax file if you keep hitting continue. It just won't work. |

Let me add here that the v5 does install if you hit the continue but like tom says the cams still do not work as the .dll and .ax have errors. As to updating the OS. I can't update it any more then it already is. If I want a new OS I will have to get another computer. I am sure I am not the only person who thinks that would be crazy just to be able to watch some cams. I like my OS the way it is. Why fix something that isn't broke.
I am sure Ric does't want to tell all these hundreds of customers that they better spend bucks and upgrade a computer that is fine otherwise. I have been trying a lot of different things from advice form different people all saying that it is something wrong with my computer but V5 should be fine. I am now finding out that it is not just me like I thought. atiable with the unmediaV5.
What I don't get, please excuse me as I am just guessing here but I was always under the impression that when you change to a different version of the same program you should still be able to see both versions with the newer one. If I am watching cams with a site that is using V4 I should be able to veiw with the V5. Am I making any sense? Why should I have two versions of the same player?

If I unistall the V4 then I can't watch the other cams. Many people of been having no problems when the install both the versions as Ric was kind enough to figure out how to put both onto the computer without having to delete one or the other. These people are having no problems watching the different sites. This is not my problem my problem is with installing the V5 in the first place. It is during the installing of the V5 program that I am getting the error.

Microsoft don't officially support Windows 98 and ME since 2007. Our software is built on Microsoft platform, so we can't help if V5 is not installing on your 98/ME machine.
If V5 does not install on your 98/ME machine, simply use V4.
That easy.
Simply use UMS links to play feed in Streaming Media Player instead of web page.
For example, on http://www.wefoal.com/Facilities.html page click on SMP links. That will open your Player v4 and play the feed there.

To Ric:
About
http://www.wefoal.com/Facilities.html page instructions at the top:
"You do need to install the. Media Player."
People do not need to install Media Player! How many times should I repeat that?
Your web pages are done in the way that if the player is not installed then the ActiveX control will automatically download and install!
If that doesn't work because people disable ActiveX controls in browser, ONLY THEN people need to install Media Player.
Another note: your web pages use TCP delivery while your UMS links (SMP) use HTTP delivery. Why is that? Use HTTP everywhere, then not only ums links but also web pages will work for corporate viewers behind firewalls.

Thank you. Now if this was told to me in the first place I would have no problems. I took the link and I can now see the wefoal cams. All that frustration when it was so simple.

| It does not matter how many times you repeat it. I have removed ALL umedia from 3 xp units. click on a cam link, allow active x to install and cam works, now I click on my SMP link and get error, try it. There needs to be some java like you have on the mobile device link there...it opens a page cannot be found ums link |
